1. How much does an eHarmony membership cost?

Being part of the eHarmony community is absolutely free. You may also complete our intake survey and receive introductory information about any matches found for you at no charge. You only pay when you are ready to take the next step and communicate with a match or matches through eHarmony!

Finding the best possible match can take time. The 12-month membership is our best value and allows you to take full advantage of the unique eHarmony matching and communication system at a 60% discount off the monthly rate. 2. Are non-subscribers counted as matches?

eHarmony was created to improve the state of marriages in North America. Our mission is to match you in a unique way, based on the 29 dimensions that are vital to long-term relationship success. We are pleased to report that since eHarmony began operations in August of 2000 we have created over 10,000,000 such matches.

We believe that finding you high quality matches is our most important task. In order to do that we have established a system where users can be matched before they join as eHarmony members. The most obvious result of this policy is that there are more people available to be matched and we are able to find more matches for you.

As you know, as soon as these non-members want to communicate with a match they are required to join the service as members. This requirement means that many non-members quickly transition to full fledged membership. It is also worth noting that our statistical analysis has shown practically no difference in willingness to communicate between non-members and members.

In fact, everyone who joins eHarmony is matched as a non-member first. You take the Relationship Questionnaire and we generate matches for you. We believe that it is important for you to see our matching technology in action before requiring a membership decision. This engenders a feeling of trust in our process.

3. Do those responding to inquiries have to pay?

We believe it is important for both parties in a match to have the same amount of investment. We want everyone to be motivated to respond and work through eHarmony's four stages of guided communication. For this reason, we require that both individuals be paying members before communication can continue. We don't want to create a situation where users are just waiting for someone to communicate with them so they can proceed without paying. We understand how that might be okay for finding a date, but eHarmony is about something more serious.

We believe that this policy treats everyone in eHarmony equally and gives everyone incentive to move forward in their search for the love of their life.

4. Why is Body Type not included in my match's profile?

We do not list weight upfront for a number of reasons. There are many different bone structures, body types and metabolisms, which can affect how someone looks. In addition to this, style, personal hygiene, and general togetherness can also affect how you look, regardless of your weight. I would also like you to keep in mind that people who work out a lot, and have a lot of muscle, can often weigh more than someone who is technically overweight.

In the personality test, we ask our users about their weight, athletic activity, and their level of energy. This information is taken into account during matching, so that people who have similar levels of energy and activity are matched together. We believe our users should get to know someone first, to see how attractive they are in total. We feel that if users see the weight of their matches, regardless of what it is, they may make inaccurate assumptions before they get to know the person. This is a risk for every user, no matter what his/her body type is.

5. What are the four stages of communication?

At eharmony, we make it easy to ask the important questions early, before you become too involved. There are four rounds of Guided Communication, followed by unlimited access to our safe, anonymous Open Communication system.

Round 1: Examine Your Match's Personal Information.

The first round lets you start the process of getting to know your match by looking over a page of detailed information about them. You can learn about your match's occupation, proudest moment, and most important influences. It's a great way find out where their interests lie and where to direct your questions in Round 2.

Round 2: Exchange 5 Closed-end Questions from our list.

The second round lets you choose some easy-to-answer but informative questions to ask your match. For example: "If you were taken by your date to a party where you knew no one, how would you respond?"

a) Stay close to my date, letting him/her introduce me,
b) Find a quiet spot and relax alone,
c) Strike out on my own and make friends,
d) Ask my date if I could skip the event.

Round 3: Exchange 10 Must Haves and 10 Can't Stands.

The second round of communication consists of reviewing and exchanging your personal list of Must Haves and Can't Stands in a partner.

Example Must Haves.

Chemistry - I must feel deeply in love and attracted to my partner.
Communicator - I must have someone who is good at talking and listening.
Wit - I must have someone who is sharp and will keep me on my toes.


Example Can't Stands.

Rude - I can't stand someone who is belittling or hateful to people.
Grudges - I can't stand someone who has a chip on their shoulder.
Materialistic - I can't stand someone who sees material items as a measure of success.

Round 4: Write and Exchange Open-end Questions.

The final step of eharmony anonymous, guided communication is the exchange of open-ended questions. They should allow for more thorough, detailed answers that reveal someone's inner values. Although you can write these questions, eharmony does provide some samples from which to choose. For example:

"What person in your life has been most inspirational, and why?" or "Tell me about your closest friend. How long have you known them, and what do you like best about them?"

Open Communication.

After you complete the Guided Communication process, eharmony helps you to continue getting to know your match by:

* Providing a safe, anonymous place for you to send and receive email.
* Helping you anonymously exchange photos.
* Helping you prepare you for that important first meeting with our educational resources and expert forums. We offer helpful and detailed dating guidance and encourage you to consult eharmony often for insight into creating a happy, long-term relationship.

6. Does eHarmony do same sex matching?

eHarmony does not offer same sex matching services. We're sorry if the placement of recent advertising led you to believe that we offer this service. eHarmony's matching system is designed to match highly compatible men and women who are seeking a successful long-term relationship. Our ongoing research has examined thousands of married couples to determine what factors predict the greatest degree of success in the marriage relationship.

Based on over 35 years of clinical practice and empirical study, eHarmony has discovered what similarities and differences between men and women lead to their most successful unions. This unprecedented research into compatibility has been conducted with the goal of lowering the rate of unsuccessful marriages and divorce by providing singles with a tool for finding truly compatible matches with whom to pursue a relationship. With this goal in mind, eHarmony's research has only examined heterosexual relationships.

7. How do I initiate communication with a match?

To correspond with an open match, here's what you do:

1. Go to www.eHarmony.com
2. Enter your username and password at the bottom of the page and click LOGIN.
3. Click on the READ MORE button next to your match's name.
4. Scroll down and click the START COMMUNICATION button.

From there, you should be able to follow the instructions listed to communicate with your match.

8. How does your match guarantee work?

Receiving matches from eHarmony is absolutely free. You may also complete our intake survey and receive your Personality Profile at no charge. You only pay when you are ready to take the next step and communicate with your matches through eHarmony.

Finding the right person for you and getting to know them can take time. Partnering with us for 12 months is the best way to significantly increase your chances of falling in love for all the right reasons! It is also the best value. However, we have created several membership plans to accommodate everyone's needs.

12 Month Membership - The eHarmony Annual Match Guarantee!
eHarmony guarantees to provide 12-month members a minimum of 12 matches throughout the course of their membership. If we fail to provide you 12 matches we will either refund* your membership fee or provide you with an additional 3 months of service at no cost to you -at your discretion.

* Annual match guarantee refund will be equal to a pro-rated membership fee based on the number of matches that a member has been provided. For example, if you receive 6 matches during the course of your membership, you will be entitled to a refund equal to 6/12 or 50% of your membership fee.

6 Month Membership - Match Guarantee.
It is our experience that it can take up to 12 months to provide you a significant number of matches. During your 6-month membership we will provide you with as many matches as we can but guarantee that we will provide a minimum of 6 matches. If you do not receive this minimum number of matches, we will extend your membership in additional 3-month increments at no cost to you until we have met this minimal commitment.

3 Month Membership - Match Guarantee.
During your 3-month membership we will provide you with as many matches as we can but guarantee that we will provide a minimum of 3 matches. If you do not receive this minimum number of matches, we will extend your membership in additional 3-month increments at no cost to you until we have met this minimal commitment.

1 Month Membership - Match Guarantee.
The one-month plan provides flexibility and the lowest initial membership fee. However, it often ends up as the most expensive choice over time. This plan does not include a match guarantee.

Cancellation Policy.
If you are not 100% satisfied with our service, for any reason, you may close your account within the first seven (7) days of your membership, and we will issue you a full refund.

9. What types of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards, as well as debit cards that feature either the Visa or MasterCard logo.

If you do not wish to use a credit card, eHarmony also accepts Cashier's Checks and Money Orders. Please make certain all Cashier's Checks and Money Orders are made payable to: eHarmony.com. eHarmony does not accept personal checks. Personal checks will be returned to the customer, which will cause a delay in account activation.

10. How do I close my account?

Closing your eHarmony account is easy, but it's important that you follow these simple steps.

All eHarmony accounts are closed via our website. Sending an email requesting an account closure and/or refund will only delay our response to you. Please help us help you by following our ONLINE account closure procedure.

* Log in from the bottom of the home page with your Username and Password.
* Select the MY ACCOUNT link at the top of the My Matches page.
* At the bottom of this page you will see a CLOSE ACCOUNT button.
* Click this button and you can begin the process of closing your account.

First you will see a page that contains some important facts to consider when closing your account. At the bottom of this page you may select CONTINUE and proceed to the final account closure page.

IF YOU ARE NOT A PAYING MEMBER OF EHARMONY - You will be served an automated account close button. Click that button and your account will be closed, your matches will be closed and you will receive an onscreen confirmation.

IF YOU ARE A PAYING MEMBER OF EHARMONY AND STILL WITHIN YOUR 7 DAY TRIAL MEMBERSHIP - You will be given instructions on how to request your account closure and refund.

IF YOU ARE A PAYING MEMBER OF EHARMONY AND PAST YOUR 7 DAY TRIAL MEMBERSHIP - You will be served a page that explains our refund policy. You would not be eligible for a refund, but you may automatically close your account from that page. This will close your matches and prevent you from receiving future email.
